The opening ceremony of the 5th National Public Ice and Snow Season and the 1st Winter Sports Series kicked off in Fengdu County, Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, on December 22, 2018.

The event hosts are Administration of Sport of Chongqing, Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development and People’s Government of Fengdu County. It aims to encourage citizens to know more about the development of winter sports, stimulate their enthusiasm to participate in winter sports, promote the development of public winter activities in Chongqing, and support the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022.

Ding Hong, Director of Administration of Sport of Chongqing, announced the official launch of the 5th National Winter Sports Festival and the 2018 Chongqing First Winter Sports Series. A wonderful snow show, as well as ice and snow experience activities, followed suit. The enjoyable event has brought 2,000 citizens together. They wowed at performances, like the splendid adult skiing show, by professional athletes and amateur masters. In the subsequent ice and snow experience activities, they have put on ski suits to have fun under the technical guidance of professional ski instructors.

Living in the south where has rare snow, many citizens skied for the first time. The first step is always the hardest. Some of them looked tense and stiff, some fell over and over, and others exhausted from practicing. It was hilarious. However, these small accidents did not stop the enthusiasm of the citizens to participate in the winter sports. No one cared about falling over. They just crawled up and then skied. Laughter and joy have been echoing in the ski resort.
Currently, the number of the population involved in winter sports in our city is about 8,000. Moreover, there are about 300 teenagers who have been participating in long-term ice hockey and figure skating practice.
