At 6 p.m. EST on December 31st, 2018, the annual countdown at the Times Square of New York kicked off. At the event, the magnificent Tongliang dragon dance impressed the audience and attracted the attention of the world.
Despite the low temperature, people were full of enthusiasm about this world-famous carnival over 100 years old. At the event, people of different races and ethnicities were all in excitement and enjoyment.
The Tongliang dragon dance troupe entered the site where there were many people who were waiting in orderliness. As an officially designated partner city of New York Times Square’s countdown, Chongqing seizes this opportunity to introduce its image as “a Land of Natural Beauty, a City with Cultural Appeal” to the audience at the event and around the world.

At 6 p.m., a ball decorated with 2,668 pieces of crystals was raised slowly, marking the start of the event. From Tongliang, Chongqing, a dragon dance troupe appeared on the stage. The show featured a dragon dancing under the neon lights.

Tongliang dragon dance has a long history. As a typical form of dragon dance, fire dragon dance is well-known and enjoys great prestige all over the world.
In addition, the tune with distinctive characteristics of Chongqing during the performance gave visitors a feast of music, intensifying the flavor of New Year ’s Eve and showing a picturesque Chongqing with unique inner beauty.
“It’s awesome! Fantastic!” Vera, a visitor watching the live celebration, said that she always paid close attention to China, and especially to Chongqing. Although she has never been to Chongqing, she has been a fan of the natural beauty and rich culture of Chongqing. Besides this, she planned to visit Chongqing soon in 2019 to achieve her dream tour.
“I’m so excited!” Wang Xiaolu, a Chinese girl from Chongqing and works in the US, said at the scene that overseas Chinese were proud of a more prosperous China. Although he has lived in the United States since the graduation from university, the information from China always triggers his nostalgia.
The same evening at Times Square, the first smart electric vehicle of Sokon, a Chongqing-based manufacturer, also made its debut.
An American Chinese, after having seen this, said that in his memory, Chongqing is known for hot pot, beautiful girls and amazing landscape, but he had never thought that Chongqing is doing a good job in the intelligent industry.
