Classic Six-Day Tour of Chongqing

Chongqing – Chongqing is a multi-dimensional city with different aspects, attracting people from all over the world. Undoubtedly, this travel guide will help the traveler who wants to explore the charming city, especially those fascinated by the Chinese culture. This article will provide a classic tourist route of the urban area as well as the trip to the Three Gorges.

Day one: visit the historical and cultural areas of urban Chongqing

Downtown Chongqing integrates culture and commerce together, especially in Yuzhong. For the second day, we will continue to explore Chongqing, an ancient city. In the morning, Ciqikou Ancient Town is a great choice to taste life on the spicy side.

Ciqikou is an ancient village set on the side of the Jialing River. It is indeed one of the two rivers that run through the heart of Chongqing. The village was first known as Baiyan Courtyard during the Song dynasty (approximately 700 years ago) where an emperor lived in seclusion. Later on, the village named as Longyin town that indicates the dragon (refers to the Jianwen Emperor) lives in seclusion.

After launch, Chongqing Hongyan Revolutionary History Museum is a good way to learn the important history of the war in Chongqing.

Hongyan Revolutionary Memorial Museum located at the bank of the Jialing River.  Meanwhile, the place used to be the southern base for CPC Central Committee during the war of resistance. The museum visits will take a half day, after that, eating hot pot is a good way to enjoy the most famous local food. You can find hot pot in every corner of the city. Hence, finding one old hot pot restaurant near the museum won’t be too much trouble.

Afterward, you can visit the spirit of Chongqing Jiefang Bei (The Liberty Monument). It is at the center of Jiefang Bei (the name the location), which is the cultural as well as the commercial center of Chongqing.

Day two: learn about Chongqing in history and culture more deeply

The urban Chongqing integrates culture and commerce together, especially in Yuzhong District. Meanwhile, there are many other spots for visitors to learn about the city. To get a general impression here, Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum is a good beginning to tour the city, and also good for the morning.

Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing (Chongqing Museum) was founded in 1951 as Southwest Museum. It was renamed in June 1955 as Chongqing Museum, and again in September 2000 as China Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing (Chongqing Museum) with the permission of the General Office of the State Council of China.

In the afternoon, Huguang Guild Hall of Chongqing is suitable for you to experience the intangible cultural heritage of Chongqing.

Additionally, Huguang Guild Hall of Chongqing is a gathering place for immigrants from 8 provinces in China. Obviously, the decoration style of the building has features of the Ming Dynasty, for business and entertainment.

In addition, there are Sichuan Opera in the Huguang Guild Hall of Chongqing at 15:30 each day.  After the opera, you can go to the most famous buildings in Chongqing- Hongya Dong, a place to relax, eat and explore the tradition of Chongqing. Hongya Dong is also a must go place to feel the stilted and antique buildings, hidden in urban Chongqing.

Since the rapid development of the Internet, Chongqing has become one of the hottest cities, which attracts people to visit. Chongqing is famous for stereoscopic landscapes, which is unusual in other cities. Hongya Dong is one of the representative urban tourist areas with three-dimensional (3D) landscapes. Meanwhile, stilted buildings and imitation antique buildings belong to the major landscapes at Hongya Dong. Additionally, many people said that it had the silhouette of the Spirited Away, from Miyazaki Hayao, especially at night.

When the night falls, the perfect day ends. You can choose a hotel near Hongya Dong, enjoying the riverside night skyline of the city. The hotel can be the same as the previous day.

Day three – day six: four-day luxury cruise for Three Gorges tour (from Chongqing to Yichang)

The Yangtze River is an ancient river which breeds Chinese people from generation to generation, as well as the cradle of Chinese civilization. When the Yangtze River traversed Chongqing, the Three Gorges came out, becoming the natural gallery of the landscape. History and culture along the river in Chongqing highlight the Three Gorges tour, and visitors can not only enjoy the scenery but also explore the local history and culture during the journey. This is a really classic route to tour Chongqing. 

Day three: Get on Board: Chaotian Men Harbor in Chongqing

The ship will leave the harbor when night falls. Therefore, you can visit the old walking trails of Chongqing during the daytime. It is ancient, but recall the deepest memories of old Chongqing. Meanwhile, you can exercise when you have fun.

Chongqing, known as “Mountain City”, is where you can still find some old walking trails constructed along the hillside or even on cliffs. These walking trails, made of stones, used to be the arterial roads which connected the upper part with the lower part of the city when people didn’t have the power to change the nature in the old times.

Transportation: Take CRT Line 1 or 2 to Jiaochangkou Station, and then walk there. On the other hand, take bus NO. 141 to Shibanpo Station, or NO. 620 to Shihuang Suidao Station

You will get on board with your ID, and a simple ceremony will be launched at the beginning of the journey. The four-day luxury cruise trip for the classic route of the Three Gorges begins. All meals are included inside the fees of the trip.

Day four: Fengdu County → Zhongxian County → Wanzhou District

In the morning, the ship will stop at Fengdu County. Meanwhile, you will tour the most famous tourist attraction – Fengdu Ghost City. In the afternoon, the ship will stop by Zhongxian County. You will visit the Shibao Pavilion there in Zhongxian County.

Fengdu is 168km from Chongqing. It is a collection of buildings of monasteries, temples, and shrines overlooking the river. Besides, the mythic temple of the underworld is the prototype of the complex, showing the culture of the afterlife to visitors.

Shibao Pavilion

It is a temple relies on the mountain, which the mountain is a kind of cliff. The Shibaozhai Village was built by the Ming Dynasty (1572 – 1619), constituted by the gate, body, and attic. It is 56m high with 12 floors, and the whole village is made of wood.

Day five: Fengjie County → Wushan County

In the morning, you will arrive at Fengjie Harbor, taking a break for about two hours. The self-paying tourist attracts, Baidi Cheng (White Emperor City) is there. Although you have to pay extra fees for the ticket, the place is recommended to visit. Afterward, you enter the Three Gorges indeed. Since the Three Gorges spans quite long, you will enjoy the classic sceneries for more than one day.

It is in Fengjie County, 450 km from downtown in the Qutang Gorge area of Three Gorges. The White Emperor (Baidi) City was first built in 25 A.D. and was named by Gongsun Shu in the Western Han Dynasty.

The Three Gorges—comprising the Qutang, Wu, and Xiling gorges. It spans 193 miles, beginning at Baidi City of Chongqing in the west and ending at Nanjing Pass, Hubei Province in the east. Three Gorges is known as “the Chinese wonders”, the most classic and famous tourist attraction in Chongqing.

Day six: Three Gorges Dam → Yichang of Hubei Province

The Three Gorges Dam is an immense and monumental engineering project, built as the largest hydroelectric plant in the world. Visitors can step on the viewing platform, which is 185m high, to enjoy the generous and inspired flowing water.
