Chongqing - “Turn left and walk for 50 meters to the railway station. Let me carry your luggage!” said Qin Dong.

Qin is a volunteer of Hongyi Social Work Service Center, whose main tasks are guiding pedestrians and carrying their suitcases. He told us that he did so at least one hundred times a day. Meanwhile, the number of volunteers participating in this year’s “Dream Station” service will reach 1,800.

Dream Station

The Railway Department estimated that Chongqing Bei(North) Railway Station would send 4.5 million passengers during the Spring Festival travel rush. Moreover, it was expected to carry about 230,000 passengers per day, with nearly 300,000 at most.

Wen Ying has been serving the community as a volunteer at the “Dream Station” for seven consecutive years. He told us that travelers regarded the “Dream Station” as a resting place on their way home. In the station, they could feel the new-year festive atmosphere, the warmth of the city, and pass love and kindness.

“I have received warmth from others, and I want to pass it to more people,” said Xie Junbo. He is a college student and received financial support in the “college dream” public welfare project. Also, the experience encouraged him to join the volunteer team.

Foreign volunteers

“Three steamed stuffed buns. Here you are.” a foreign boy said in fluent Chinese. He was distributing the steamed stuffed buns to travelers in the Mom’s Kitchen of “Dream Station”.

The two volunteering members are from Kazakhstan and study at Southwest University.

This volunteer is from Kazakhstan, and majors in Chinese Language and Literature at Southwest University (Chongqing). Besides this, this volunteer team comprises students from Laos, Kazakhstan, Morocco, and other countries. Most of the members are students from Southwest University.

“Working as a volunteer here helps me experience different Chinese cultural atmosphere,” said a volunteer, “I come to China four years ago simply because I like this country. I like the culture of Chongqing, a mountainous city, where there are unique sceneries and dishes. Of course, the hot pot is my favorite.”
