Chongqing - As the Spring Festival draws near, villagers were extremely busy in Shiquan Miao Village.

The village is located in Youyang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County, Chongqing. It is the largest Miao village in southeastern Chongqing. With a history of over 500 years, it still preserves the traditional folk culture and architectural patterns of Miao people.

Red lanterns and spring couplets

The clean and tidy courtyard was filled with red lanterns and spring couplets, creating a strong festival atmosphere.

Villagers are writing spring couplets.

Every Spring Festival, villagers here put the spring couplets on the doors, pillars and walls. That gives the courtyards of Miao people a new look.

Pasting the Chinese character "fu" on the door is a tradition for Spring Festival.

The Chinese character “fu” (lit. blessing) carries the meaning of good wishes of villagers for the coming year.

The traditional way to make tofu

Hidden in the mountains, Shiquan Miao Village remains the traditional tofu making technique. Villagers ground beans into the white sauce and heated it to make final soft tofu.

Ciba-making

Making ciba is also an unforgettable event here at the end of the year. The round-shaped cakes are a token of reunion. Its sweet flavor indicates the sweet and happy life.

During this period, villagers here even make bamboo containers for their special purchases for the Spring Festival. Perhaps, the homesickness and the festival atmosphere hide in their simple actions.
