Meeting a Hometown Memory of China

In 25 days, covering 18,000 kilometers, this was an interpretation of homesickness. We visited more than 40 traditional craftsmen in Chongqing, trying to understand the spirit of craftsmanship. In the villages of the vast land of Chongqing, ancient arts and skills are still well kept. They have accompanied generations growing, migrating, and returning to this place.

From today, we will present you five documentaries focusing on the craftsmen in Chongqing in the following five weeks.

This episode will present us with two typical icons of a hometown memory of Chongqing: sugar painting and pottery.

Sugar painting is a traditional Chinese form of folk art using hot, liquid sugar to create two-dimensional figures. Meanwhile, the pottery is one of the oldest human inventions, and for many locals of Chongqing, a pottery jar is a must in their home. Moreover, a pottery jar full of Suan Cai (a local style pickle) may even equal to the homesickness.
