According to the Chongqing Economic and Information Technology Commission on March 22, Chongqing realized increases in values added of eight supporting industries and a decrease of one in January and February 2019. Additionally, a new highlight in Chongqing’s economic development is the fast growth of smart industry and promotion of intelligent transformation.

Specifically, respective increased values added of the eight industries are 17.7% in material, 16.3% in consumer goods, 10.3% in chemical engineering, 7.6% in electronics, 7% in equipment, 6.3% in pharmaceutics, 4.8% in the motorbike and 0.8% in energy.  The decreased one in the automobile is 19.6%.

It is worth noting that growth rates of material, chemical engineering and consumer goods are over 10 percentage points higher than that in the previous year. And their total contribution to the city ’s added value growth reached 180%.

The head of the Chongqing Economic and Information Technology Commission said, “Chongqing has sped up its development of smart industry and promotion of intelligent transformation. It also has enhanced its investment in new industries and business models. As a result, the city achieved a new highlight in economic development in the first two months of 2019.” For example, values added of high-tech industry and strategic emerging industry increased by 6.4% and 7% respectively, higher than the city’s overall industrial growth rate. They contributed the respective 40% and 53% to the rise of industrial value added in Chongqing.

Also, high-end segmented industries, which are in line with the consumption upgrade direction, are brands-leading and support industrial transformation and upgrade, performed well.
