On the evening of April 19, Chongqing Qunxing Theater in Jiangbei District, held the Journey to New Accomplishments: “Embracing the World” Classical Music Concert. Teachers and students from Sichuan International Studies University peformed in 12 different languages including English, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French and Arabic, offering a spectacular music performance.
The theater was crowded with spectators at 7:30 p.m. The show began with the playing of Click Go the Shears, an Australian ballad. However, the performers combined traditional Chinese guzheng, erhu, and flute with Western viola, violon, and cello, generating a melodious sound and giving a different acoustic perspective.
Then, spectators started enjoying the local customs of the countries along the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road”. Kazakh dance, and songs like Russia’s Katyusha and Troika, Germany’s Ich war noch niemals in New York, Italy’s O sole Mio, France’s Les Champs-Elysees, Portugal’s All I See Is You and Spain’s La Paloma, such performances seemed to bring the viewers on the China-Europe train, allowing them to appreciate the prosperous scenes of these countries.
Additionally, there were shows of 15 countries and the Arab world, including a Japanese dance (Sakura Iro Mau Koro), Vietnamese song (The Myth), Thai dance (Say Farewell to the Past), Indonesian song (Oh Mother), Arabian belly dance (Arabian Night) and piano performance (Tierra del Fuego).
