Chongqing - As Chongqing Chuanju (Sichuan Opera) Theater put on an orange outfit to mark King’s Day of the Netherlands, you could expect great things to come out of this cultural exchange occasion.

On April 26, the celebration of Dutch King’s Day, held by Consulate General of Kingdom of the Netherlands in Chongqing, took place in Chongqing Chuanju Theater. A considerable number of officials from local government, diplomats from Consulates and personnel from foreign and local business groups attended the event.

“We have come to a special place to celebrate King’s Day: Chongqing Chuanju Theater. Apart from the fact that it is a beautiful place, it also has to do with Sino-Dutch cooperation.” Said Mr. Koen Sizoo, the Consul-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Chongqing. He explained the reason why the Consulate chooses Chongqing Chuanju Theather to mark the Dutch National Day. A wonderful part of the celebration was the display of excerpt of the film Inner Landscape by Dutch director Frank Scheffer. The film tells the story about how the composer Guo Wenjing and Sichuan Opera artist Shen Tiemei who is the president of Chongqing Chuanju Theater, created new – style opera Si Fan, a great work that bridges western and eastern music as well as culture together. “The rest of China will have to wait until June, but here in Chongqing we already have the exclusive first screening of an excerpt of the film Inner Landscape.”Said Mr. Koen Sizoo.

Mr. Koen Sizoo, the Consul-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Chongqing, delivered the opening speech on King's Day.

Ms. Shen Tiemei, the president of Chongqing Chuanju Theater, is the leading role in the documentary on display. She has led the Sichuan Opera performance group to the Netherlands many times. The wonderful performances have gained great applause from the audience in the Netherlands. The trailer of Inner Landscape displayed on King's Day has got warm applause from the attendants. " I can't wait to watch the full episode of the documentary. It shows the brilliant integration of western and Chinese traditional cultures. It's so wonderful." one of the audience told iChongqing.
