Li Yaxian, a classic Sichuan Opera, is to be performed on June 22 and 23 during the 26th Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS), as one of the major programs. Shen Tiemei, a famous Sichuan Opera performer and a three-time winner of Plum-blossom Award, will perform the romantic story.

The widely-recognized FITS held in Romania aims to promote creative communication within Europe, even around the world. Meanwhile, it will stimulate valuable art creation, via presenting best performances from across the globe. It, along with the Festival d’Avignon in France and the Edinburgh International Festival in Britain, constitutes the Three Greatest European Festivals. Founded in 1994, this year’s FITS will last ten days from June 14 to 23 under the theme The Art of Giving, and welcome over 3,300 artists from 73 countries to bring 525 performances in 75 venues.

Li Yaxian is going to perform at Radu Stanca National Theatre, the most important installation of performing arts in Sibiu. Other major operas are from Sweden, Canada, Israel, Russia, and Italy.

Shen will attend the Walk of Fame Gala at 19:00 of June 22 (local time), as the first Chinese opera artist selected in the Sibiu Walk of Fame. 38 artists have been awarded such honor during the past six years.
