Italian and Chinese Police to Jointly Patrol at Chongqing's Landmarks

Chongqing - On June 26, 2019, two Italian policemen came to Chongqing to jointly patrol downtown Chongqing's tourist attractions with the Chinese police. From June 24 to July 5, the Italian police sent eight police officers to China for the third time. They jointly conduct patrols with Chinese public security police in the tourist attractions of Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, and Guangzhou. The Chongqing police will select four patrol teams to jointly patrol. The joint patrol team will adopt a combination of walking patrol at Chongqing landmarks such as Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street, Hongyadong, People's Grand Hall, Yangtze River Cableway, Ciqikou Ancient Town, Nanshan Scenic Area, and Nanbin Road. In addition to that, tourist attractions and transportation center with populated sites such as Jiangbei International Airport, CRT Line 2, and Chongqing West Railway Station were also under the joint patrols.

During the joint tour, the Italian policemen will not carry any weapons or police equipment, and cooperate with local police to assist in handling the problems related to the safety of Italian tourists visiting China.

According to China Daily, this operation is expected to provide better public security services and raise the confidence of both countries' citizens when traveling. There are eight Italian policemen invited by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, and they will carry out joint patrols of tourist attractions in Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, and Guangzhou. To make a more profound contribution to law enforcement cooperation between the two countries, promote the exchange of Chinese and Italian personnel, and support the development of bilateral relations. It is the third time that Italy has sent police to China for joint patrols since the first group came to Beijing and Shanghai in 2017.

To further safeguard the security interests of the overseas citizens of both sides, according to the cooperation documents signed by China and Italy, in September this year, China will send police officers to Italy for the fourth time and conduct joint patrols with Italian police officers in four cities including Rome and Milan. During the joint patrol, it will continue the useful practices of the previous joint patrol, set up an alarm hotline for Chinese people, and to assist their local counterparts with safety issues relating to Chinese citizens, to understand the security situation, and protect the safety of Chinese citizens and expatriates.
