Chongqing ranked 88th, among the top 100 global innovation clusters for the first time
GII has been jointly released by WIPO, Cornell University and INSEAD yearly since 2007. It shows the change of innovation capability of each country through quantitative indicators, and it is considered as the primary reference indicator to measure the innovation performance of a country or economic engine.
This year’s GII ranked 129 economies based on 80 indicators, including seven categories of systems, human capital and research, infrastructure, market maturity, business maturity, knowledge and technology output, and creative output. China ranked 14th among the 129 economies and 1st among those with income above average.
A total of 19 Chinese cities were listed in the top 100 global innovation clusters (for cities or city clusters), among which Chongqing was in the 88th place, up 15 spots from 2018. Making the 3rd most significant progress in the 19 cities, Chongqing showed a high vitality of innovation and rapid growth momentum.
