Chongqing- According to the Chongqing Municipal Agricultural and Rural Committee on September 19, 2019, the Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival will be celebrated with over 300 activities in villages of Chongqing, as a part of the celebration for the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The festival falls on the Autumnal Equinox and September 23 this year is designed for farmers to celebrate the annual harvest. The celebration is scheduled for the end of October. At the same time, there were 83 recommended routes covering 296 leisure spots for fall tourism in the whole region.

Over 300 activities involving agriculture culture and experience

“Celebration activities will all take place in villages, in farmlands, farmers’ courtyards and workshops,” said Gao Xingming, deputy director of the Chongqing Municipal Agricultural and Rural Committee.

More than 300 activities will incorporate the elements agriculture and production, farmer’s lives, craftsmanship, farming culture and experience, traditions, and customs. They will take such forms as performance, picking-up competition, rural and cultural tourism as well as story-telling. Three activities for the harvest celebration with dragon dance, rice-trashing ceremony, and a long table feast will be held in villages of Longyin Village in Liangping District, Huaxi Village in Shizhu County and Langjia Village in Jiangjin District. Apart from that, quality agricultural produce is available at the sales and exhibition site.

2018 was the first year to celebrate the farmers’ harvest festival, attracting 1.37 participants and 1.05 farmers. More than 5000 select agricultural products were traded both online and offline, reaching a trading volume of over 24.6 million yuan.

The recommended 83 routes are themed with “harvest and experience” for the Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival, meeting five main demands for rural landscape, crops pickup, local food, folk culture, and specialty purchase. More information on these routes can be found on the website.
