On September 25, the 2019 China-Germany Smart Manufacturing Cooperation Forum was held in Chongqing. This grand event has gathered over a hundred of leading experts, representatives, and other participants from enterprises, governments, and associations, and investment service institutions of Germany and departments of municipal, district, and county levels and manufacturing enterprises of Chongqing for cooperation.

It is the China-Europe freight trains that help to bridge enterprises of Chongqing and Germany this time.

The first train, from Chongqing to Dusseldorf, of China Railway Express (Chongqing) was put into service on January 2011.

The China-Europe freight trains start from Chongqing and destined for Duisburg, and the operation has been smooth since its opening. In 2018, it operated 1,442 trains, with the total container throughput of 110,800 TEUs.

The opening of China-Europe freight trains has promoted the trade and economic exchanges and cooperation between Chongqing and Germany. Notably, the cooperative projects between the two sides include China-Germany industrial parks in the Liangjiang New Area and Yongchuan District, China-Germany College in Nan’an District, Western Demonstration Base of Chinese-German Union for Vocational Education, and education cooperation with Chongqing University of Technology, Sichuan International Studies University, and Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.

From January to July this year, Chongqing has accumulated the investment of USD 4.968 million in Germany. Their total volume of imports and exports reached RMB 24.93 billion, up 8.92% (YoY). To be specific, the exports totaled RMB 22.81 billion and the imports were RMB 2.12 billion.

Chongqing Intelligent Manufacturing and German Industry 4.0

As an established industrial base, Chongqing’s intelligent manufacturing enjoys broad prospects, and the German Industry 4.0 is also world-renown.

Then, what will happen when Chongqing’s Intelligent Manufacturing meets German Industry 4.0?

On this forum, the participants focused on intelligent manufacturing and discussed and communicated about further cooperation in this field.

Based on the Implementation Plan for Intelligent Manufacturing Program of Chongqing (2019-2022), by 2022, Chongqing will conduct intelligent transformation on 5,000 enterprises. Besides, it will build ten industrial internet platforms with strong competitiveness, 50 smart plants, 500 digital workshops, 25 industry-level benchmarking enterprises of intelligent manufacturing, and 12 demonstration parks of intelligent manufacturing. Then, the output value of the correlative industry will exceed RMB 40 billion.

Germany delegation has brought over ten roadshows, and the two sides will find cooperation opportunities through field investigation, forum, and roadshow, for optimizing and upgrading Chongqing’s traditional manufacturing industry.

In November this year, Chongqing Investment Promotion Bureau will take directors of some Chongqing-based intelligent manufacturing enterprises to Germany to review the progress of projects achieved on this forum, thus promoting more in-depth cooperation.

Friendly exchanges between Chongqing and Germany

In July 2004, Chongqing and Dusseldorf became sister cities, and Dusseldorf won the “China-friendly City Exchange and Cooperation Award.” In January 2011, the first train, from Chongqing to Dusseldorf, of China Railway Express (Chongqing) was put into service. In September 2013, Chongqing and Duisburg signed a friendly cooperation agreement. In December 2015, Chongqing and Freistaat Sachsen built up regional friendly exchanges and cooperation mechanism.
