Charming Chongqing Float Was Unveiled on the National Day Parade

On the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, a variety of floats featuring local characteristics are a highlight besides of the grand military parade. What does Chongqing’s float look like? On October 1, the high-profile float of Chongqing was finally unveiled on the anniversary.

The float themed Charming Chongqing is in the shape of a three-dimensional modern new city of mountains and rivers, presenting the magnificent image of Chongqing as an exemplary inland city for opening-up and a city known for its well-preserved natural landscapes in the new era. The float is 15m long, 8.8m high and 6m wide, with the total weight of 30 tons.

The production of the float was undertaken by Chongqing Daily News Group, the upper decorative parts were designed and made by Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (SCFAI), the vehicle refitting was completed by Chongqing Dima Industry Co., Ltd. and the chassis was provided by Qingling Motors Co., Ltd.

Distinctive Chongqing characteristics

The whole design and production process of the float embody innovation and creation. Taking advantage of the new materials and new technology of Chongqing, the float fully displayed the city’s modern and intelligent elements with a view to welcoming the new era.

The shape of the float perfectly showed the features of Chongqing as A Land of Natural Beauty. The images of the Yangtze River and Jialing River were designed on the two sides of the chassis and vivid models of featured buildings including the People’s Liberation Monument, Hongyadong, Huguang Guild Hall and Chongqing Grand Theater lied under the mountain. In the middle of the mountain, there were models of urban traffic facilities such as Chaotianmen Bridge, Qiansimen Bridge, CRT train running through high-rise buildings and the Yangtze River Cableway, as well as the Mountain City Pathway.

Innovative elements

In terms of the float’s design, 70 artists from SCFAI have created three sets of static picture tones of green, bluish violet and orange red to match the ornamentation of the mountain. With the three faces of the mountain rotating, different combination of pictures and colors presented the images of the lucid waters and lush mountain as eco-security shields of Yangtze River, a modern metropolis of fashion and fantasy and the red leaves all over the mountain of the Three Gorges.

A LED screens were installed on the front of the float.

Moreover, LED screens were installed on the front and the two sides. As the vehicle moved, the audience could watch the promotional video of the city on the LED screen on its front and the animated video of the float’s production process by SCFAI on the screens on both sides, which presented the unique city landscape and Chongqing’s latest achievements in the new era. Additionally, the screens seemed to be encircled by the elegant “garland” composed of 6 actresses in camellia-shaped clothing.

High manufacturing level

The top of the float is decorated with mountains and auspicious clouds.

The body of the cable car and the shell of the CRT train were made from photosensitive resin materials by virtue of 3D printing technology. Besides, the models of the Yangtze River and Jialing River were made of the aluminium alloy for aerospace produced by the Southwest Aluminum (Group) Co., Ltd. As a widely used alloy in great demand among all commercial aviation aluminum materials, this aluminium alloy has been applied in the manufacturing of military and civilian aircraft extensively.
