On the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, the beautiful float Charming Chongqing was unveiled. On October 12, the float was sent to the People’s Square of Chongqing, and it will be displayed to the public for free after a redecoration. Before visiting the People’s Square, learn the following stories to help you understand the float better!
After appearing on the National Day Parade on October 1, the float was presented in the Beijing Olympic Park for six days. As soon as it was sent back to Chongqing, relevant departments started redecoration work and planned to display the float together with Tongliang Dragon Dance and Dazu Carp Lantern Dance in the People’s Square from October 16 to 31.
The design of the float integrates two styles of likeness in spirit and similarity in form to present the look of Chongqing in the new era. It shows the city’s features such as freedom, vividness, pleasure and liveliness, the city’s new look as a land of natural beauty, and the latest achievements the city made since the reform and opening-up.
Deng Jianqiang, Secretary and Executive Curator of Chongqing Art Museum, recalled that the Leading Group Office of the float organized the creative teams to work day and night to put forward ideas, select elements, hold demonstration meetings, repeatedly refine its theme and tirelessly revise and improve the design scheme.
“We didn’t seem to have enough time to make the float based on the design drawing. For the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, it took us nearly three months to make the float. This time, our team made it in such a short period,” said Yu Jin, a professor from the School of Mechanical Engineering, Chongqing University, who participated in the design of the float, described the design and manufacturing processes as a formidable test.
Yang Kuang, former Vice President of Chongqing Federation of Literary and Art Circles, was impressed by the collaboration of the teams in the design process. He said that creative design is the basis and premise of making the float. However, it cannot be finished by a particular unit or individual. It needs the resources, efforts, and wisdom of all participants.
Well-known writer Xu Dali said that the float’s design and manufacturing gathered all wisdom of Chongqing people. Participants widely adopted the advantages of every side and integrated ideological connotation with artistic expression, thus making the float delicate and unique.
Through struggling day and night, participants deepened the artistic connotation of the design to highlight the theme of the float, and finally, Charming Chongqing was decided upon as the theme.
Many representative buildings of Chongqing were designed on the float, including Chaotianmen, Hongyadong, the CRT train running through high-rise buildings, and the Chongqing Grand Theater.
Zhou Ankang, Commissioner of the Industry Office of China Automotive Engineering Research Institute, introduced that the body of the cable car and the shell of the CRT train on the float would be made from photosensitive resin materials by 3D printing technology. Intelligent hydraulic elevators were equipped to raise and lower the mountains autonomously. The models of waves on both sides of the float were made of aerospace aluminum alloy produced by the Southwest Aluminum (Group) Co., Ltd.
Zhou Ankang added that the float showed the power of Chongqing in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic technologies by integrating new crafts and new materials.
