On the morning of November 9, the 1st Sichuan Opera Culture and Art Festival opened in Yongxi Town, Dazu District, Chongqing, awakening the town with resonant and high-pitched voices. In addition to the opening ceremony, the festival also arranged classic Sichuan Opera performances and multifarious activities online and offline, including enjoying Sichuan Opera and the tea, which allows tourists to experience the authentic traditional Bayu Culture in the quaint and quiet town. According to the statistics, over 30,000 tourists swarmed to the town to enjoy the feast on that day.
The festival sponsor made every effort to create an opera atmosphere with the focus on Sichuan Opera inheritance and Bayu Culture. Several traditional Sichuan Opera highlights were staged in turn on November 9 and 10. On the spot, Sichuan Opera masters, including Xiao Demei and Wang Yumei, performed on stage in succession. They also attended the high-end forum to advise on the “Inheritance and Protection of Sichuan Opera in the New Era” on the afternoon of the 9th.
In addition to satisfying opera lovers, the sponsor also strived to make the festival a carnival for ordinary tourists, providing them with novel and diverting interactive activities.
Moreover, delicacies are indispensable. Spicy rabbit meat, rice wine, liquor and spirits, and other well-known specialties of Yongxi Town gather in the Yongxili Tianxuandihuang Creative Market. Besides food, exquisite cultural and creative products are also available.
It is worth mentioning that this festival also intended to invite 100 Sichuan Opera experience officers who could participate in all activities during this festival. They will be given a free opera ticket for the festival and a voucher for Dazu Rock Carvings. Furthermore, they will also play a vital role in the inheritance and protection of Sichuan Opera as folk ambassadors. Through registration and screening, 100 experience officers, including four foreigners, have been selected, which embodies the charm of Sichuan Opera culture.
