Chongqing- On December 2, the 2nd Asia-Europe Cooperation Dialogue opened in Chongqing. At the opening ceremony and plenary session, Ban Ki-moon, chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia and the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, spoke about his vision of Chongqing.
Though it is his first time in Chongqing, Ban Ki-moon called Chongqing an economic vitality city.
On December 1, Chen Miner, Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee；Tang Liangzhi, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Mayor；Tang Jiong, the Chairman of the CPPCC met with important Chinese and foreign guests who came to Chongqing to attend the second Asia-Europe Cooperation Dialogue.
This meeting helped Ban Ki-moon understand Chongqing better. He said that he was honored to meet with Chen Miner, Chongqing Municipal Party Committee Secretary yesterday. And they discussed a wide range of topics which were very encouraged.
During the meeting, Ban Ki-moon said that Chongqing is a beautiful city of mountains and rivers with unique geographical advantages, the strong momentum of open development, and full of vitality. The future of Chongqing will certainly be better. He expressed that he is willing to help Chongqing open up and develop through the Second Asia-Europe Cooperation Dialogue.
Ban Ki-moon said that Chongqing is the right place to have the Dialogue happen.
Ban Ki-moon said that he learned from the leaders of Chongqing that Chongqing has benefited a lot from its integration with the world economy. As an inland city, Chongqing has now become one of the windows of opening up to the outside world. Under the framework of the “Belt and Road” initiative, Chongqing has opened a China-Europe rail freight service to Europe. Chongqing will not only become an industrial center and trade hub but also build a manufacturing center and a smart city in the future.
” The messages the Boao Forum wishes to convey through this Chongqing Dialogue: a stronger voice for multilateralism and an open world economy; more robust trade, investment, and financial ties; closer cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative; collaborative innovation towards the next technological revolution. ” Ban Ki-moon said on the opening ceremony.
