Xiao Mian, Hot Pot, Sichuan Cuisine, Chongqing's Potential National ICH

Recently, Chongqing completed the application of the fifth batch of representative projects of national intangible cultural heritage, according to the Office of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development. A total of 30 municipal intangible cultural heritage projects, including Sichuan Cuisine, Hot Pot, and Xiao Mian (Chongqing Noodles), will strive to be identified as a national intangible cultural heritage.

To further carry forward excellent traditional Chinese culture and strengthen the building of the list of representative projects of national intangible cultural heritage, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China (MCT) launched the recommendation and application of the fifth batch of representative projects of national intangible cultural heritage in this June.

Entrusted by Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, Chongqing Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center immediately started the work of recommendation and application. It selected 30 representative projects of municipal intangible cultural heritage with rich connotations and outstanding historical, cultural, and scientific values among the total 511 ones to apply as the fifth batch of representative projects of national intangible cultural heritage.

Sichuan Cuisine

These selected projects can be divided into eight categories, with two traditional music projects, two traditional drama projects, one quyi project, seven traditional art ones, six traditional skill ones, two traditional sports, entertainment, and acrobatic ones, five traditional medicine ones and five folk-custom ones.

According to the work arrangement of the MCT, Chongqing has filled in and submitted the application materials of the 30 projects online. After being reviewed and approved by the MCT, the project list will be submitted to the State Council for study, approval, and promulgation.

According to statistics from the Office of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, Chongqing has owned 44 representative projects of national intangible cultural heritage and 60 representative inheritors as of now.
