Chongqing Yangtze River Cableway has smoothly completed the annual maintenance and cable car replacement work within nearly a month. On December 22, it officially resumed operation, three days ahead of schedule. The third-generation cable cars have replaced the second-generation ones, which have been in service for 14 years.

After nearly a year of design and production, the new-generation cable cars were made the same in appearance as the first-generation ones designed in 1987, allowing tourists to catch a glimpse of the initial look of the cable cars.

“The glass on the body of the new cable cars is stronger, larger and more transparent than that of the old ones so that tourists could have a wider view.” A relevant person of Chongqing Passenger Cableway said that the new cable cars are almost the same in size as the old ones, but their maximum passenger capacity has been reduced from 80+1 to 65+1, thus tourists could have more space to move around.
In addition, the new cable cars are designed with elements of Chongqing. The lines of mountains and rivers and the ambient lighting look simple, modern but artistic, which highlights the unique charm of Chongqing, A Land of Natural Beauty and A City with Cultural Appeal.
Operating hours of Chongqing Yangtze River Cableway are 7:30-22:30 (Mar. 1 to Oct. 31) and 7:30-21:30 (Nov.1 to the end of February). It closes at 22:30 on national statutory holidays.
