Youtube vlogger Alex and his wife Julia began an exploration of Chongqing, which Alex describes as “the largest metropolis in the world” in a way to celebrate their relationship anniversary as well as bring extraordinary vlogs to their growing audience base.

Coming to Chongqing for the first time, in a vast city that speaks a different language, where the network and communication system is very different from home, Alex and Julia’s experience in Chongqing was both challenging and adventurous. After the journey, the message the couple would love to pass to their vlog followers is that “Chongqing has everything to offer to foreign tourists like us.”

“When we are here, I do feel like we jumped 50 years into the future. The buildings, infrastructure, metro lines, the communication, the way people are paying here so different; it’s so exciting. We can feel such big progress in Chongqing. Everything is moving forward, not standing still, that’s exciting to capture these as a travel vlogger,” said Alex, describing his impressions of Chongqing.

From singing publicly on a street karaoke, interesting conversations with locals, generosity, and politeness they received while vlogging, amazing shopping, and getting invited to a local's home," we've had interesting and fun experiences during our stay here," said Julia. The couple opened themselves to experiences in Chongqing and captured unique and exciting stories with their camera.

What surprised them is also people’s kindness and openness to them. “We are warmly welcomed here. People want us to film here. People want to talk to the camera. People here are very proud of their country, which I can see in people that I talked with here,” said Alex. “That excites me as a vlogger and debunks the stereotypes many westerners hold about the country.”

The amenities, hotel rooms, transportation, restaurants, infrastructure in Chongqing impressed them as well. “Dollar for dollar, what you pay here is probably the best value you can find for a city of this size on the planet. Most of our taxi fares range from 1.5 to 2.5 USD for 10-15 minutes,” said Alex, comparing Chongqing favorably based on his rich experience of traveling abroad.
Julia pointed out the unique charm of Chongqing. “Besides, it’s a beautiful city which has mountains and rivers, nature as well as great shopping. It’s a major modern city in China that does not lose Chinese city identity; it holds fast to the traditions,” she said.
