Building a “smart CPPCC Chongqing”

Reporter: 2019 marked the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and that of the CPPCC. What’s your comment on the main work of the CPPCC Chongqing Municipal Committee in the past year?

Yu Jiping: 2019 was an extraordinary year in the history of the CPPCC, during which we took on a new mission, developed new skills to strengthen the assessment of members on their performance of their duties and actively build a “smart CPPCC Chongqing”, and work hard to make new achievements to constantly improve our ability to perform duties and actively explore innovation.

Making suggestions on industry ecosystem

Reporter: General Secretary Xi Jinping put forward a series of important instructions and requirements on the work of Chongqing. What has been accomplished by CPPCC Chongqing Municipal Committee?

Yu Jiping: There are three aspects. Firstly, we carried out consultations and discussions on themes such as the construction of New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor under the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity, business environment improvement and accelerated development of health care industry.

Secondly, we organized CPPCC Chongqing Municipal Committee members to participate in Smart China Expo, WCIFIT and Chongqing Talents Conference, made suggestions on the implementation of the rural revitalization and urban upgrading plan and the construction of Guangyang Island, and held the first online political consultation and teleconference on strengthening the important ecological shelter zone in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

Thirdly, we conducted a supervision inspection to help Nixi Town of Yunyang County Chongqing to fight poverty.

Promoting the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt

Reporter: Can you talk about the practical activities on members to fulfill their duties and responsibilities of “further promoting the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt to accelerate the construction of a city with beautiful natural landscapes” launched by CPPCC Chongqing Municipal Committee?

Yu Jiping: In 2019, we carried out a supervisory investigation publicly and privately, and a seminar on “coordinated efforts to protect the ecological environment of the Yangtze River for promoting the green development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt”, making concerted efforts in the upper, middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Members were organized to focus on the construction of Guangyang Island and conduct site learning and in-depth investigations and inspections on the construction of ecological forest along the Yangtze River. The implementation of the General River Chief Order No.1 promoted the continuous improvement of the water quality of the Bi’nan River. The expert database of the CPPCC Chongqing Municipal Committee was set up to provide intellectual support for CPPCC Chongqing Municipal Committee and its members to fulfill their duties.
