Chongqing- The 2020 UK-China (Chongqing) Media Workshop starting in Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality on January 14, 2020, has brought 20 local journalists together for a four-day training in business and finance reporting, which enhances bilateral cooperation and exchange.

Two senior media professionals and one Chinese economist join the program as trainers to share their thoughtful ideas and extensive practical skills under the theme of China-UK Exchange and Media Economic Observations under the Belt and Road. Mark Webster has rich experience in many training programs, Laura Oliver works as a journalist and digital media consultant, and Xie Xin is an economics doctor and professor.

The media workshop is hosted by the Information Office of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipal People's Government, and British Consulate-General, Chongqing.

“The workshop is designed to promote communication and mutual learning between Chongqing and the UK," Ma Ranxi, Deputy Director-General of the Publicity Department, CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, said at the opening ceremony and continued, "It aims to jointly nurture professional journalists for business and finance coverage, and it also serves Chongqing's effort to be a pioneer of opening-up and international financial center in inland China."
"Thomson Foundation has a network of more than 200 media professionals, with cutting-edge skills, who are keen to share their knowledge," introduced Cecille El Beleidi, British Consul-General in Chongqing, "This week will comprise lectures, examples of best practice, discussions and practical workshops." She also hoped the media workshop to be "a start for much longer cooperation".
"People-to-people exchanges represent a very active and potential cooperation area for China and the UK," Wang Wen, Deputy Director-General of Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office, said and added, "UK-China (Chongqing) Media Workshop serves as a breakthrough on a trial basis for Chongqing and the UK to cooperate in culture and international communication."
The 2020 UK-China (Chongqing) Media Workshop runs between January 14 and 17. According to the course summary, the emphasis is practical skills. At the core of learning is the use of business data and case studies. All the participants will learn how to tell compelling business stories for the general public and more to explore.
