Wendy Wu: COVID-19 is an Opportunity That China's Tourism Industry Will Shuffle

Chongqing- Since the COVID-19, many inbound tour groups had been canceled. Wendy Wu, the Group CEO of Wendy Wu Tours, is quite confident in the recovery of inbound tourism in China after the epidemic. "Although it had a large impact on tourism, there is no need to cancel the year-round plan to travel to China. China is still an amazing place worth visiting."

Talked about whether there is a long term impact on China’s tourism with BBC  reporter,Windy Wu was optimistic. She said that according to the experience of SARS, which was a far more fatal disease in 2003, the whole world was looking at China during that time, so afterward, their company got an extraordinary increasing demand to China tours even bigger than the Beijing Olimpic Game 2008.

According to Wu, after the COVID-19, all tour groups, which will depart before March 15, are canceled, and those will depart after March 15, but before March 30 or even April, are still to be determined depending on the situation. Wendy Wu Tours, as the largest Chinese-featured tourism group in the United Kingdom, Australia, and also New Zealand, pays close attention to the situation in China, therefore, having the right to speak about the actual situation. Some customers will leave the decision to the company because customers absolutely trust them.

Although the quarantine period has not passed yet and many scenic spots are not open yet, Wendy Wu Tours is preparing for the inbound tour after the epidemic. The company comforts its customers all around the world so that the tour group cancellation rates are only 15% to 18%. Meanwhile, the company also discussed cooperation with travel agencies in other regions in the U.K. and cooperate with the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development to prepare for inbound tourism after the epidemic. "We are preparing everything to ensure that we can be the first one to enter China after the epidemic," said Wu, "Many tourist agencies cancel the year-round travel plans to China, but I don't think it's necessary to do that. Although tourism will be affected in the first half of this year, we can still strive to promote tourism of September and October."

Moreover, Wendy Wu regards this special situation as an excellent opportunity to promote Chongqing's tourism to the world. For now, Chongqing needs to prepare for the recovery of tourism.
