Greetings from Chongqing's International Friends: We Stand Together!

Chongqing - In recent days, Chongqing's international friend cities and international organizations such as Mito, Japan, Incheon, Korea, Shanghai Cooperation Organization Industrialists Committee, Voronezh, Russia, and etc. have sent much support to China and Chongqing. Chongqing has received a lot of greetings letters, which indicates that our international friends will stand with us to fight against the COVID-19 epidemic!

The officials from Antwerp, Belgium, and Düsseldorf, Germany sent greeting letters to their international friend city - Chongqing. The letters expressed admiration and affirmation for the efforts of the Chinese people and Chongqing citizens have been doing to fight against the COVID-19 outbreak. At present, the Antwerp Province and Düsseldorf municipal governments are actively coordinating multiple approaches to providing assistance to Chongqing. As the city of Dusseldorf mentioned in the letter: As a friend city, Dusseldorf is willing to stay in touch with Chongqing. “We sincerely pray for you”, The Antwerp Provincial Government stated that it will always listen to the needs and work with Chongqing as friends to overcome the difficulties.

Annette Byrne, the councilor and the Lord Mayor of Leicester sent her greetings and wishes to Chongqing on Feb. 3. She mentioned that Leicester is taking measures actively to provide assistance to Chinese students who live in Leicester and help their families and friends in China.

Besides, in a difficult time to fight the epidemic of COVID-19, the consulates of all countries in Chongqing and Chengdu gave Chongqing a full understanding and sent warm greetings and their supports. They stand together with people of Chongqing in facing of the epidemic.

Recently, Dióssi Lóránd, the Consul-General of Hungary in Chongqing and Dean of the Chongqing Consular Corps, united 24 consulates of various countries in Chongqing and Chengdu to send a letter of appreciation to Vice Mayor Li Bo and the Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipal Government. On behalf of the foreign consulates in Chongqing and Chengdu, the letter expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the Chongqing Municipal People's Government for their dedication and professionalism in responding to the COVID-19 epidemic, and it also indicated their impression on the solidarity of the Chinese and Chongqing people.

Consul Generals, Deputy Consul Generals of Hungary, Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom, Canada, Uruguay in Chongqing, Consul General of Australia, South Korea, Germany, and Singapore in Chengdu, sent a specially recorded video. Dan Sen, Consul General of Denmark in Chongqing, sent a greeting letter in support of Chongqing to win this anti-epidemic fight.

At the same time, the Consulate General of Japan, South Korea, Uruguay, Singapore, and Cambodia in Chongqing and Chengdu also actively organized their countries to donate medical supplies to Chongqing. The Korean Consulate General in Chengdu actively facilitated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea to donate a batch of medical protective materials to Chongqing. Chongqing became the second city to receive medical donations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea after Wuhan.

Consulates in Italy, Denmark, Australia, Germany, Thailand, and other countries have provided effective medical material procurement to our city.

Mito and Hiroshima City in Japan have donated masks to Chongqing and other friend cities in China,Mr. Nobuyuki Watanabe, Consul General of Japan Consulate-General in Chongqing, indicated in his greeting letter that other friend cities in Japan are preparing the assistance for China.

“At present, you may still face many inconveniences in life and work, but you can also take advantage of this period to do things. For instance, I have planned to read some books and do some clean-up around”, Mr. Watanabe suggested, and he hoped when the conditions allow, life will return to normal as soon as possible. Besides, he mentioned that the friendly communication between Chongqing and Japan is more active than ever. “I look forward to this day coming soon, and I wish you all to take care of your wellness during this period and stay safe and healthy!” he wrote in the letter.
