Through 254 Digital Exhibitions to Explore Museums in Chongqing

Chongqing- During the Spring Festival of 2020, to ensure the prevention and control of COVID-19 and to guarantee the security and health of the public, there are 104 museums in Chongqing that have temporarily suspended. However, although those museums are closed, Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development organizes museums to take full advantage of themselves, launching digital exhibitions elaborately. Museums use the Internet and mobile digital platforms to carry out various cultural interactive activities. In this way, they are providing the feast of culture to tourists both at home and abroad.

According to data, there were 254 digital exhibitions launched by museums’ websites in total from January 24 to February 18, 2020, of which 86 were newly launched during and after the Spring Festival, with more than one million online hits in total. Meanwhile, there are 82,243 pieces or sets of cultural relics, with 160,000 online hits.

Besides, there is a series of virtual exhibitions, as National Cultural Heritage Administration’s first to the fourth batch of online exhibition resources, will be introduced to the world. For example, Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum will introduce Life of Strong China – the Change Exhibition of Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. Meanwhile, Chongqing Hongyan Revolution History Museum has its basic exhibitions while Chongqing Natural History Museum presents the basic exhibition, Earth · Creature · Human, and special exhibition, the Panda Era – Evolution of Pandas.

When COVID-19 was spread, digital exhibition reserves of Chongqing’s museums had already exceeded 150 items. Since the prevention and control of the epidemic at home, the museums cooperated with the major media to arrange incredible exhibition contents. They launched 254 different types of exhibitions in total, including 86 newly digital exhibitions, some micro-lectures, cultural relics appreciation, and more.
