5G and big data applied in epidemic prevention and control

According to Thursday's press conference on COVID-19 in Chongqing, the accurate support of big data is a highlight of Chongqing's epidemic prevention and control efforts. Chongqing Municipal Communications Administration led four operating companies to build a telecommunications big data analysis platform.

For example, operators provide daily statistical analysis of roaming data in epidemic-hit areas such as Wuhan to the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission, which offers technical services for proper investigation of people coming back. Meanwhile, the technology of big data has been used to analyze close contacts, providing information on the distribution, movement, etc.

During the epidemic, all major operators also spared every effort to ensure a smooth communication network. The hospital can use Chongqing Mobile's 5G large bandwidth and high rate to achieve a remote diagnosis. Chongqing now has more than 10,100 5G base stations, and 5G technology is applied in areas such as telemedicine, intelligent medical robots, thermal imaging temperature detection, and unmanned disinfection, providing strong technical support for epidemic prevention and control.

In addition, key communications projects will resume work and production as soon as possible to ensure the completion of 30,000 5G base stations this year.

Discharged patients recommended to take a 14-day centralized recovery and close medical observation

Chongqing has adopted multi-disciplinary treatment and "one case, one plan" for severe cases. After finding out that some rare cases of the nucleic acid test result positive during the recovery period, it is recommended that all discharged patients take a 14-day centralized recovery and close medical observation during the recovery period.

At the media briefing on COVID-19 on Thursday, the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, "As of 6 am Geneva time this morning, China has reported a total of 78,630 cases of COVID-19 to WHO, including 2747 deaths." He added, "Outside China, there are now 3474 cases in 44 countries and 54 deaths." WHO chief also asked relevant countries to seize their window of opportunity. "With the right measures, it can be contained." And China "does not appear to be widespread community transmission." He made his point based on the statistics in Guangdong, where more than 320,000 samples have been tested from the community, and only 0.14% showed positive for COVID-19.

The overall confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland had reached 78,824 by the end of Thursday, and 2,788 people had died of the disease, according to the National Health Commission (NHC) Friday. A total of 36,117 people had been discharged from the hospital after recovery. By the end of Thursday, 93 confirmed cases, including two deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), ten confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 32 in Taiwan, including one death. Twenty-six patients in Hong Kong, eight in Macao, and six in Taiwan had been discharged from hospital after recovery.

Xinhua news reported that the Ministry of Education on Friday launched a 24-hour online campus recruitment service to help graduates find jobs amid the COVID-19 epidemic. The free service is available on the ministry's campus recruitment portal and five leading job-hunting websites in China, which had all put in place special pages for the project, deputy minister Weng Tiehui told a press conference.
