At 18:00, March 5, Chongqing Municipal People’s Government was in a meeting with the Ministry of Trade & Industry of Singapore (MTI) in the conference room of Chongqing China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity (CCI) Administrative Bureau. They signed the Memorandum of Understanding for Smart China Expo Cohosted by Chongqing Municipal People’s Government and Ministry of Trade & Industry of Singapore. This means Singapore, as one of the hosts, will cosponsor SCE with Chongqing.

The first SCE opened in Chongqing in August 2018. At the Opening Ceremony, Goh Chok Tong, Singapore’s Emeritus Senior Minister, and Former Prime Minister delivered a speech as the representative of the guest of honor. Tank Kiat How, Director of Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), led a government and enterprise panel for SCE. Covering 200 representatives of 40 scientific and technological enterprises from Singapore, it is the largest delegation to China ever organized by IMDA. Singapore built an exhibition hall of more than 1,400 square meters in Chongqing International Expo Center, held such events as Singapore-Chongqing Digital Economy Seminar, Business Matching Session and the press briefing, and also promoted the signing of MOU of major cooperation projects.

During the second SCE held in August 2019, Singapore served as the guest of honor. The themed exhibition area of 3,000 square meters demonstrated its latest achievements in the digital economy and Service 4.0, as well as in CCI and New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC). Singapore also organized a series of forums, product launching meetings, innovation application contests, and signing ceremonies for cooperation projects.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of launching CCI. From the guest of honor to the host of SCE, Singapore shows its confidence in China’s economic and social development and Chongqing’s future. According to MTI, Singapore believes both CCI and Chongqing will enjoy a promising future. By cohosting SCE, it hoped to boost the cooperation and co-building of the innovative ecosystem, and promote the progress of CCI.

By the end of February 2020, 55 various cooperation agreements and 204 cooperation projects have been signed through CCI, with a total value of over USD 30 billion.
