COVID-19 Update: China Fulfilling Its Role as a Major Responsible Country

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying briefed at the regular press conference on March 30 that the Chinese government has decided to send a team of medical experts to Venezuela to help it fight the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the regular press conference of the Foreign Ministry on Monday. According to Xinhua report, a team of Chinese medical and scientific experts arrived in Venezuela on Monday to help fight COVID-19, welcomed by Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Jorge Arreaza and Chinese Ambassador to Venezuela Li Baorong. Arreaza thanked the Chinese government and people for sending "this huge plane full of solidarity," after the aircraft landed at the Simon Bolivar International Airport in the city of Maiquetia.

In addition, the spokesperson Hua Chunying said that after the outbreak, relevant Chinese enterprises returned to work, expanded their production capacity, and worked around the clock to produce medical protection supplies, thus providing solid logistical support for China's fight against the pandemic. "Although the situation in China is getting better and more stable, they are still working overtime day and night to help other countries in urgent need of them to fight the pandemic," she noted and added, "This is China fulfilling its role as a responsible major country and the Chinese people making a kind and selfless contribution to the global response."

The Chinese mainland reported 48 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 Monday, according to the National Health Commission March 31. And all of them were imported cases, bringing the total number of its kind to 771. The overall confirmed cases on the mainland had reached 81,518 by the end of Monday, including 2,161 patients who were still being treated, altogether 76,052 patients who had been discharged after recovery, and 3,305 people who died of the disease. By the end of Monday, 682 confirmed cases including four deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 39 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 306 in Taiwan including five deaths. A total of 124 patients in Hong Kong, ten in Macao and 39 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
