By RUI HUDENG ZHANG|Apr 21,2020

Chongqing- During the COVID-19 pandemic, iChongqing has conducted a series of webinars with overseas Chinese and stayed in contact with them to learn their vision of different countries. In this episode, we invited three Chongqing girls, Shuangya Tan, a graduate student at Leeds University, UK, and Yadi Wang(Yanel), an undergraduate student in Spain, and Jackie Han, working in Milan, Italy, to talk about their current situations.

(Due to the microphone error, Jackie Han cannot share her voice in the video.)

Jackie Han is working in Milan, Italy with a permanent resident visa; she is originally from Wuhan, China. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she had not met her family since last Dec. her parents left Italy in Dec. 2019, and Jackie had planned to go back to home in Wuhan in the spring festival. However, she could only meet her family online during this period. She said the city was lockdown officially only about half month ago, in middle of March, if you went out now for non-essential reason, you would be fined by the government. She started quarantine only about half a month due to her job reasons. For the daily materials, she has enough PPE and food orders every day, and she heard that the Chinese community has given away masks on the street to their neighbors.

She told us that “I think the most important thing I found during the pandemic is, I am so proud that I am Chinese”. Besides, she never worries about her health status, “I am confident about my healthiness, but I worry about my family, because my uncle (my mom’s brother) is a confirmed case in Wuhan, and he is still in the hospital. My mom and I will check each other’s situation every day to ensure that she stays at home”, she laughed with tears.
