COVID-19 Update: China Boosts Int'l Cooperation to Contain Cross-Border Transmission

Chinese immigration organs in border areas have held over 200 bilateral talks through video, telephone, and letters with foreign border management authorities to exchange information on epidemic situations, exit and entry information, and epidemic containment measures. Immigration authorities in China and its neighboring countries also intensified border patrols to jointly combat cross-border criminal activities. They established a working scheme to swiftly verify and repatriate illegal border-crossers to prevent virus transmission.

There were 2,804,796 confirmed cases (84,900 new) globally, and 193,710 people (6,006 new) have lost their lives by 10:00 CEST April 26, according to the daily COVID-19 situation report released by the World Health Organization.

The Chinese mainland reported three newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 Sunday, according to the National Health Commission (NHC) April 27. And two of them were imported cases, bringing the total number of its kind to 1,636. Also, on Sunday, 25 new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were reported on the mainland. At the same time, no one was confirmed of being infected with the virus, and 51 were discharged from medical observation, according to the NHC. A total of 974 asymptomatic-infected patients were still under medical observation. The overall confirmed cases on the mainland had reached 82,830 by the end of Sunday, including 723 patients who were still being treated, altogether 77,474 patients who had been discharged after recovery, and 4,633 people who died of the disease.

By Sunday, 1,037 confirmed cases, including four deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 45 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 429 in Taiwan, including six deaths. A total of 772 patients in Hong Kong, 31 in Macao, and 281 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
