Chongqing- Over a period of 46 days, Dr. Zhou Fachun, the head of ICU at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, went to Wuhan as the deputy head of the Number Eight Chongqing Medical Team in aid of Hubei Province, head of ICU. There he was responsible for two ICU wards, and also worked on a specialist panel for treating serious cases.
In an interview with iChongqing, Doctor Zhou describes his feelings during the epidemic, the challenges his team faced, the experience they gained, their relationship with patients, and the advice he can now offer to both medical professionals and people worldwide based on direct experience.
As the head of ICU, the final death rate in the epidemic was directly correlated to the effectiveness of treatment, so he is able to share his invaluable, first hand experiences of the fight against COVID-19 from the front line.
When his medical team successfully completed their assignment in Wuhan, Dr. Zhou first stayed in Nanchuan District for two weeks of quarantine and recuperation, after which he returned to work in familiar surroundings.
