"The raging COVID-19 pandemic across the world is threatening human health and the global economy. In response to international efforts to contain the disease and prioritizing the health and safety of all participants, the Forum's Board of Directors made the difficult decision of not holding this year's annual conference," it read in the news. The BFA annual conference was initially scheduled from March 24 to 27 in Boao in China's southern province of Hainan, with a theme of "A world in change: Bond together for a shared future." According to the news, the BFA would continue preparation for three major thematic conferences scheduled in the latter half of the year 2020. Moreover, BFA will organize a series of on-line activities to discuss the impact of the pandemic and explore solutions for recovery.

The Chinese mainland reported four newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, according to the National Health Commission (NHC) April 30. And all of them were imported cases, bringing the total number of its kind to 1,664. Also, on Wednesday, 33 new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were reported on the mainland, while no one was confirmed of being infected with the virus, and 28 were discharged from medical observation, according to the NHC. A total of 998 asymptomatic-infected patients were still under medical observation. The overall confirmed cases on the mainland had reached 82,862 by the end of Wednesday, including 619 patients who were still being treated, altogether 77,610 patients who had been discharged after recovery, and 4,633 people who died of the disease. By Wednesday, 1,037 confirmed cases, including four deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 45 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 429 in Taiwan, including six deaths. A total of 830 patients in Hong Kong, 34 in Macao, and 311 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
