Chongqing- On April 29, Chongqing Foreign and Overseas Affairs Office and Chongqing Health Commission had conducted the 6th webinar with Sacramento, California, the U.S. Sacramento is Chongqing’s international friend with historical cooperation. In this online exchange meeting, it played the new song Good Job by artist Alicia Keys to started with. The MV showed how American citizens like medical professions, clean staffs, cooks, and drivers respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sacramento has cooperated with Chongqing since 2013.  In this webinar, Chongqing’s medical experts from Affiliated Hospitals of Chongqing Medical University answered questions by the medical delegation of UC Davis Medical Center.

During the webinar, experts and doctors on both sides exchange experiences. Antonio Yung, Envoy of City of Sacramento, China Office, remarked in the opening that “It is unfortunate that we meet under the situation of a worldwide pandemic. It is fortunate that we still get to meet even though we are more than 10,000 Kilometers away from each other”, he said, and he also sent the Mayor’s message:

“Steinberg, the Mayor of Sacramento, would like to send his warmest regards to all who are here, all he had met, and all he has not a chance to meet yet: Thank you for getting together to make the world a better place.

As California Capital City Chief Representative to China, I truly appreciate the relationship that we built over the years. It allows Chongqing and UC Davis this opportunity to share your expertise and your experience.”

As of 24:00 local time on April 27th, California, the United States, a total of 1035 confirmed cases, 41 deaths of COVID-19 were diagnosed in Sacramento. California has a total of 45031 confirmed cases, 1809 deaths, 1567 new cases, and 54 new deaths on the same day.

Chongqing & Sacramento: cooperation since 2013

In April 2019, Mayor of Sacramento led a delegation to visit Chongqing, and Chongqing’s Mayor Tang Liangzhi met with the delegation. Both sides signed a memorandum of understanding on establishing friendly cooperative relations between Chongqing and Sacramento.

In 2013, the city of Sacramento established a representative office in Chongqing. In recent years, the representative office has done a lot of work to promote pragmatic cooperation between Chongqing and California. For example, it has promoted the opening of the California Life Pavilion and the California Commodity Display and Sales Zone in the Lianglu Cuntan Bonded Port Area to introduce high-quality products. In addition, the representative office organizes government and enterprise delegations to participate in exhibition activities such as the Chongqing International Trade Fair and Smart China Expo in our city and conducts economic and trade promotion activities for substantive exchanges between the two places. It is hoped that the Sacramento Economic and Trade and Education Representative Office in China will continue to serve as a window and bridge between two places, and build a platform for enterprises to carry out two-way investment cooperation, and comprehensively promote cooperation between the two cities in the fields of economy, trade, education and culture.
