Chongqing- On April 29, iChongqing interviewed an overseas Chinese girl, Mengyu Wang, to discuss overseas Chinese’s life and vision during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mengyu is now a bilingual news anchor of the New York Stock Exchange Media Center. She is doing the TV reporting for what’s going on in the United States economy, politics, and critical social issues. In this episode of the interview, she shares the current situation of COVID-19 in New York City and her stories during the special period.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mengyu received many hateful comments on her social media, like Instagram. Therefore, she just kept away from those people by closing comments on Instagram. As a young media person, Mengyu hopes to do the right thing for everyone, letting the public understand that all people should help each other.

The epidemic not only isolates people but also builds a gully between some people’s hearts – they blame, abuse, or discriminate against each other. Meanwhile, there are also some people are gloating over the disaster while some of them start to question openness, cooperation, and globalization.

However, there are still many things that are moving in a good direction and New York City is still one of the most important central nodes connecting the world. The epidemic will eventually pass. "To fight against COVID-19, we should really work together," said Mengyu Wang.
