According to the office of Chongqing Municipal Committee for Disaster Reduction on May 7, the meteorological administrations of Chongqing and Sichuan will strengthen cooperation in meteorological disaster prevention and reduction, as well as the prediction and early warning of extreme weather events, and signed an agreement on jointly promoting meteorological cooperation in Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.

According to the agreement, the two sides will give play to the role of meteorology in serving people’s security and the role of the first defense line of meteorological disaster prevention and reduction, work together to formulate the Plan for Meteorological Disaster Prevention in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle and promote the building of an urban-rural integrated meteorological disaster prevention, reduction, and relief system. In addition, the two sides will strengthen the forecast and early warning of disastrous weather and extreme weather events, speed up the building of an intelligent emergency early warning system, and establish a fully-covered, accurate, and smooth, natural disaster monitoring and early warning system.

Chongqing and Sichuan will also jointly build an intelligent geological disaster and meteorological risk early warning system, which will be integrated into the comprehensive geological disaster prevention and control system. In the next step, the two sides will jointly carry out artificial precipitation enhancement, artificial hail suppression and artificial rain reduction in the Chengdu-Chongqing region, and build an intelligent meteorological service system for the government, the public, and the industry.

To ensure the cooperation, Chongqing and Sichuan will establish a shift joint meeting system, hold regular consultations on the planning and project layout, jointly formulate special plans such as the Plan for Meteorological Disaster Prevention in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, and strive to incorporate them into the national-level plans of China Meteorological Administration. Besides, the two sides will jointly implement major projects such as the meteorological disaster prevention project in Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and the weather modification capacity building project in southwest China.
