Chongqing Changjiang (Yangtze River) Cableway Releases New English Promotional Video

By James Alexander|May 29,2020

Chongqing- The Chongqing Changjiang(Yangtze River) Cableway has released a new English language promotional video for international audiences to learn about the prime tourist attraction.

When the Chongqing Changjiang (Yangtze River) Cableway first opened in 1987, locals depended on this means of transport to cross the Yangtze River between Yuzhong and Nan'an Districts. Prior to the recent addition and expansion of multiple bridges, the only alternative was an extremely circuitous and time-consuming journey simply to reach the opposite bank.

A terminal was built either side that allowed a pair of cable cars to simultaneously make the 1166 meter crossing in both directions in about 4 minutes. The maximum daily capacity was over ten thousand foot passengers per day.

In recent years, the completion of Dongshuimen Bridge has connected Jiefangbei and Nan'an with convenient road, subway, and pedestrian links, so rendering the former cable car journey obsolete as purely a means of transportation.

In 2009, the cableway was officially named the youngest cultural relic in Chongqing Municipality and later rebranded as a 4A tourist attraction following a renovation of the facilities. Its appeal among domestic tourists has been further enhanced thanks to appearances in popular Chinese films and TV shows, such as ‘Hotpot Hero’ and ‘A Taste of China - Series 2.’

The current third generation of cable cars resembles the initial models first used back in 1987. The main improvements come in the way of larger and more transparent glass windows. While the dimensions are similar to the first generation, maximum passenger capacity has been reduced so that passengers can enjoy views in any direction thanks to greater ease of movement.

Chongqing Changjiang Cableway can be reached from exit 5B of Xiaoshizi Subway Station. Operating hours 7:30-22:30 (Mar. 1 to Oct. 31) and 7:30-21:30 (Nov.1 to the end of February). It closes at 22:30 on national statutory holidays.
