Chongqing Tourist Consumption Recovery Rate Ranks First in China

Chongqing – The Dragon Boat Festival is the last minor holiday in the first half of the year. Data on Fliggy, Alibaba’s online travel service provider, shows that during the Dragon Boat Festival, in addition to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the overall number of tourists has recovered to 60% of that last year. Affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, coupled with the short holiday days, a quick trip is still the leading choice of tourists during the Dragon Boat Festival. Chongqing remains an appealing tourist destination, making it one of the top 10 most popular tourist destinations during the Dragon Boat Festival.

According to Meituan Research Institute’s Tourism Consumption Forecast Report during the Dragon Boat Festival 2020, Chongqing has the highest consumption recovery rate across China.

According to the monitoring data released by the Municipal Commission of Commerce on June 27, during the three-day holiday of the Dragon Boat Festival, the city’s major commercial districts and key monitoring enterprises achieved a retail sales of 1.74 billion yuan, achieved an increase of 7.5% compared with last year.

During the long weekend, a total of 238 scenic spots in the city were opened, and the cultural tourism market gradually recovered. Among them, the city’s A-level scenic spots received 2.66 million tourists.

After the overall epidemic situation has been eased, Chongqing launched various measures to stimulate tourism consumption. In addition to a variety of vouchers distributed through lottery draw, the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development also customized nine featured tourist routes for “weekend tour.” As a low-risk area, Chongqing took the lead to launch the “Chongqing · Star Electronic Music Festival” to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, which triggered an outdoor carnival craze.
