Bayu Ancient Bed Museum, located in Bijin Park, Yubei District, Chongqing, has been opened to the public for free since 2015. With its unique features, the museum has been popular among citizens since its opening. Flocks of local citizens and tourists came here to appreciate the beauty of the ancient beds.
The museum is a three-story archaized courtyard building. Focusing on the development and evolution of the ancient beds in Bayu since the middle and late Qing Dynasty, the pavilion presents the beautiful ancient beds, including "Ningbo bed," arhat bed, "Babu bed" and stool bed.
The highlight of the collections--"No.1 Bed in Bayu" in the museum is a gold-lacquered bed with piercing. This bed, made of Nanmu, preserved from the Qing Dynasty, is 2.74 meters long, 2.91 meters high, and 2.81 meters wide. Based on the appraisal, it is identified as National Grade II Cultural Relic. The bed is decorated with more than 200 grams of gold and rich in patterns characterized by a variety of auspicious animal, flower, and bird images, and the emblazonry contains profound meaning. It is the largest and the most luxurious bed with the highest level of craftsmanship in Bayu.
It is not only a museum but also the carrier of Bayu Culture.
