In the first half of 2020, Chongqing's investment in information and communication industry exceeded RMB 8.5 billion, overfulfilling the annual construction target of 30,000 5G base stations six months ahead of schedule, according to Chongqing Administration of Communications on July 2. As of July 1, 32,000 new 5G base stations have been built in Chongqing, and a total of 42,000 5G base stations have been built, achieving full coverage of 5G network in all key districts and counties in the city.

To ensure the epidemic prevention and control as well as 5G construction and resumption of work and production, the Chongqing Administration of Communications has set up China's first 5G new infrastructure big data platform. With the construction of big data management, the coverage of 5G network in Chongqing can be displayed visually, the construction progress of 5G network in Chongqing can be controlled in real-time, the difficulties in the construction of basic network facilities such as 5G network can be solved in time, and the systematization and informationization of 5G network construction management can be promoted.

Chongqing's information and communication industry will accelerate the construction of a 5G quality network featuring "wide coverage, excellent network quality, and superb business experience," realize 5G contiguous networking, ensure the development needs of information technology industries such as communication network, Internet of Things, big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, industrial internet and network security in new infrastructure fields. It will also innovate and carry out various 5G application demonstrations, promote 5G network construction driven by smart applications, boost digital industrialization and digital development of industries, and build a national leading and demonstration area for 5G development, noted Chongqing Administration of Communications.
