Reheal Biopharma Limited in Chongqing High-tech Industrial Development Zone (Chongqing High-tech Zone) built the world’s first artificial intelligence screening platform for biomedical materials and developed the first carrageenan antiviral skin spray in China in just eight months, Chongqing High-tech Zone revealed on July 15. The spray wraps and inactivates the virus, thus being called the “invisible mask.”
Carrageenan is a natural seaweed extract widely used in tremella, bird’s nest, and other food additives. A few years ago, European scientists discovered its ability to wrap and inactivate influenza viruses like coronavirus and rotavirus.
After the outbreak of COVID-19, Reheal Biopharma promptly launched the emergency response plan for epidemic prevention and control. Because carrageenan antiviral skin spray can wrap the virus when sprayed into the nasal cavity, and act like an “invisible mask,” it was quickly approved as a key project by Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau’s “Special Scientific and Technological Research on Emergency Response to COVID-19”. It was granted for urgent marketing in March this year.
Reheal Biopharma urgently organized production and donated 5,000 pieces of this epidemic prevention products totaling a value of 150,000 yuan to 12 COVID-19 prevention and control medical institutions such as the affiliated hospitals of Chongqing Medical University and Chongqing General Hospital, as well as the frontline departments of epidemic prevention and control.
“As for the antiviral skin spray produced by Reheal Biopharma, only two companies in the world have similar products by far, one in Germany, another in Sweden. However, our price is 1/3 of the imported products, less than 100 yuan,” said Feng Wenxue. So far, Reheal Biopharma has developed a series of carrageenan anti-epidemic products, and the company has also signed with Iraq a foreign trade order totaling 100,000 bottles worth several million yuan.
