CAERI has won the bidding of the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) Pioneer Application Environment Setup, and Scenario Test & Verification Platform Construction Project announced China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI) on August 11. Started this year by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the project aims to build a national IoV pioneer zone within three years through scale construction and application of IoV facilities at key parts of Chongqing Liangjiang New Area. The zone is planned to have an area of 210 square kilometers and a total road length of 319 kilometers.
A series of scale tests and application demonstrations based on vehicle-road cooperation will be conducted at Liangjiang New Area.
Specifically, the project will integrate China's most complicated mountain roads, urban roads, highways, and port areas and equip complete networked transportation facilities involving drivers, vehicles, roads, and the Internet to create an integral IoV application scenario. At the same time, it will also develop a trans-industry, interconnected IoV big data cloud service platform and a user interaction application software to realize the commercial application of IoV.
In the future, a series of scale tests and application demonstrations based on vehicle-road cooperation will be conducted at key parts of Liangjiang New Area. They include the scale test and application demonstration for smart city public transportation and individual transportation that involves more than 10,000 vehicles; the scale test and application demonstration for automated driving and IoV information service on highways and expressways that involves more than 1,000 vehicles; the scale test and application demonstration for automated driving designed for smart intermodal logistics that includes more than 100 vehicles.
Moreover, the project will pilot high-precision maps for automated driving, to promote the commercialization of such application scenarios as highway vehicle-road cooperative application, urban public bus/taxi vehicle-road cooperative application, and automated driving at ports and airports.
Of the 319 kilometers of roads that are to be covered by IoV in Liangjiang Area, 67 kilometers is a highway, 7 kilometers urban expressway, 200 kilometers urban road, and 45 kilometers port road. Road Side Units (RSUs) will be installed at 470 intersections and dangerous sections along these roads.
Among others, at the key roads with a combined length of at least 135 kilometers including Lijia Intelligent Park, Yufu Industrial Park, Yubei-Guangan Highway, and airport expressway, the IoV 2.0 fusion sensing networked environment is planned to be created; at water-land-air controllable closed regions with a total area of 7 square kilometers, the IoV 3.0 across-the-board sensing cloud controllable networked environment is scheduled to be built.
