CapitaLand Launches Flood Relief and Donation Program Worth One Million

By JIEYU WANGKAILONG TAN|Aug 26,2020

Recently, the huge flood peak passed through Chongqing, leading to a severe flood situation. On the morning of August 20, a flood peak of 191.62 meters high appeared at the Cutan Hydrological Station of the Yangtze River, the highest level since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Parts of Chongqing's riverfront area, including major roads, were flooded.

To support Chongqing flood control and disaster relief, CapitaLand launched the One-Million-Yuan Flood Relief Donation Program. During the program from August 25 to September 1, participants can redeem 100 yuan of flood relief donation with 20 CapitaLand Star points, and the group will make the corresponding donations. In Chongqing, the group will donate 10 yuan for each consumption in its subsidiaries, and the total amount of donation nationwide will be capped at one million yuan. After the program, CapitaLand will donate through its charity arm—The CapitaLand Hope Foundation and will work closely with local community partners for relief needs.

CapitaLand acted quickly after the flood. To ensure the safety of local consumers, tenants, owners, customers and employees, the group has been working closely with relevant departments to take necessary security measures, including keeping close communications with related parties, temporarily closing underground parking lot, arranging property management staff on duty by turns, monitoring the surrounding water level 24 hours a day, and evacuating the residents of service apartments that are profoundly affected by the flood to safe places in advance.

During the flood peak period, all businesses in the Raffles City maintained normal operation.

Located at Chaotianmen at the intersection of the Yangtze River and Jialing River, Chongqing Raffles City considered advanced flood control solutions at the beginning of its design and construction. The structure of the flood control retaining wall was designed to be 195 meters high, which is higher than the unprecedented flood level. Meanwhile, the impact load of ships is taken into account, and the outer wall is sufficient to withstand the flood. During the flood peak period, all businesses in the Raffles City maintained normal operation. Although the highest flood peak did not break through the flood barrier in the building, temporary closures and vehicle transfers were taken to ensure the safety of property and customers. The team worked closely with the government flood control and emergency departments and was on call 24 hours a day to check for potential leakage risks and ensure that the building's drainage system was in good order.
