YouTube Live Stream on Flood Passing Downtown Chongqing

By XIAO WU|Aug 26,2020

Chongqing - On Aug. 19th and 20th, three YouTubers, Barrett, Reporterfy Media, and JaYoe Nation, together with iChongqing, held two live streams on YouTube about the flood passing through downtown Chongqing. iChongqing reporter Sasha walked through Chongqing flooding areas to show what's going on live in the city and talked to local people on the ground representing the true situation of the city under the severe flood.

Chongqing Experienced an Unusually Severe Flood!

In the live show, Matt introduced to the foreign viewers that as a river-side city, Chongqing was experiencing an extremely aggressive flooding situation. Sasha, a reporter from iChongqing, also joined the discussion and provided on-the-spot information.

On Aug. 19th, she went to Hongyadong. "Normally in Hongyadong, there's an area way below that you could see a gap of 4-meter space from the waterline; however, it's now underneath the water!" The next day, when she visited and reported the Grand Theater, they were all shocked by the severity of flood: "the water level is now over the extreme value since its establishment in 1939. It's almost 200 meters high.!"

They took and received pictures and information regarding what's happening now in the area.

The Strongest support from the government to combat the flood

Chongqing is a huge spot of land, and it has a large population of over 30 million people. The Yangtze River runs through it and across the downtown area of Chongqing as well as several main districts and counties.

Considering these conditions, Matt acknowledged that many people have been apprehensive about what was potentially going on with the dam and downstream cities.

However, both YouTubers and viewers were surprised by the order and controlled flood situation in Chongqing. Since the flood formed, Chongqing has been under organized rescue and management. The flood created difficult situations, but there was no panic among citizens. Alex said, "It was quite normal that China does have the ability to recover pretty quickly from pretty massive disasters."

In the live show, Sasha answered viewers' questions about whether the Chinese military was out helping citizens to cope with the flood. She gave an example: "this morning, all the police in Yubei district are out in force to help factories and citizens evacuate."

She also said that it was the first time that the Three Gorges Dam opened 11 gates to help stop the flood from the upper reach of the river to downstream. Viewers and YouTubers were amazed by the Government's timely response, practical strategies, and reliable support.
