On August 20, Tan Jialing, Vice Chairwoman of Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and her party visited the park for an investigation into the developments of Chongqing’s blockchain industry.

In November 2017, Chongqing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology and the People’s Government of Yuzhong District commenced the construction of Chongqing’s first-ever blockchain base. In April 2020, Chongqing Municipal Blockchain Industrial Innovation Base realized upgrading as Chongqing Big Data Application and Development Administration conferred it the plaque of “Chongqing Municipal Blockchain Digital Economy Industrial Park.”

Within only a couple of years, the industries in the park have started to converge to make a real difference, and their development has made noticeable progress.

Chongqing Blockchain Park

At the exhibition center of the park, A Unit, Chongqing Headquarters City, there is a giant sand table displaying the panorama of the park. According to it, the park is located in the Chain Island smart industry cluster area nearby Hutouyan roundabout, Gaojiu Road, Yuzhong District, with a planned area of about 400,000 square kilometers.

So far, the park is not only home to world-renowned enterprises like Inspur and IBM and leading homegrown enterprises like Bangbang Lian Intelligent Technology and Jinvovo Technology, but also many other enterprises that can support their development such as CMM Industrial Internet Platform, Venustech, and Biobank. As a result, a comprehensive industrial park that combines R&D, application, and integration has been built.

This April, Chongqing Blockchain Innovation Alliance was established, attracting more than 110 enterprises including Inspur, Tsinghua Unigroup, Huawei, IBM, Tencent, Alibaba, and Baidu as the first member units. Since establishment, the alliance has enhanced the Chongqing blockchain industry in ecology, innovation, and application, and also sharpened the competitive edge of Chongqing blockchain park.

“When 5G is available across the board in the future, off-chain data will travel and go on-chain faster and faster in the wireless environment. Moreover, the park will also facilitate the deeper integration of big data, 5G and blockchain technologies, and open up more and more development opportunities,” said the head of the park.

Having learned about the latest developments in the park, Tan pointed out that the thriving of these blockchain enterprises cannot be realized without the strong support of the park. “It is central for the park to create a favorable environment for enterprises. First, it needs to build an enabling business environment for them, provide the necessary facilitation they need, and shape a sound ecology. Second, it needs to introduce more preferential tax policies and seek more incentives for enterprises, so that they are willing to come to and settle down in Chongqing.” Tan added, “The park is situated in Chongqing Headquarters City. But our aim is more than a tech headquarters, but a big tech center.”
