5G + Smart Rail Transit Joint Innovation Lab was unveiled in Chongqing Rail Transit Company on August 24, of which the joint founders include China Mobile (Chongqing Branch), Chongqing Rail Transit Group, China Mobile (Shanghai) Industrial Research Institute, and BWTON Technology.

The next step of CRT (Group) was to cover all CRT lines with the 5G network and realize the creative application of the new technologies.

Relying on the competitive resources of the Lab, the four will work together in the study of 5G + smart rail transit schemes,  product R&D, project operation, crafting of technical specifications and standards, and establishment of model applications. In addition, they are going to promote the integration of such new technologies like 5G, big data, and artificial intelligence (AI), with Chongqing Rail Transit (CRT).

Chongqing Rail Transit (Group) said their next step was to utilize respective strengths in platforms, technologies, and channels for all-round and in-depth cooperation, based on the Lab. As a result, they can spare no effort to cover all CRT lines with the 5G network and realize the creative application of the above-mentioned new technologies in vehicle-to-ground wireless communication, the Internet of Things (IoT), and intelligent operation and maintenance.

The four partners are preparing to explore new business forms and new models in the integrated development of 5G and smart rail transit, in a bid to realize the application of 5G technologies in CRT and offer a better experience for passengers.
