To put the Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Serving Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle Construction into practice, the First Joint Meeting of Returned Overseas Chinese Federations of Sichuan Province and Chongqing was held in Chongqing from August 26 to 27. During the meeting, the Returned Overseas Chinese Federations at the municipal-, district-, and county-level signed nine cooperation agreements, of which included the ones inked between Mianyang and Beibei District as well as Dazhou and Bishan District. As a result, Sichuan and Chongqing will work together in developing returned overseas Chinese-related economy and science and technology and expanding channels to woo Chinese abroad.
Attendees consisted of heads of 15 municipal-level Returned Overseas Chinese Federations of Sichuan Province, including the one of Chengdu, 21 district- and county-level Returned Overseas Chinese Federations of Chongqing, including the one of Wanzhou District, and over ten relevant organizations in the two places.
According to the Joint Meeting, the signed nine cooperation agreements mainly focus on works concerning economy and science and technology, international cultural exchanges, and platforms serving overseas Chinese. For example, the agreement signed by Guang’an Returned Overseas Chinese Federation and Changshou District Returned Overseas Chinese Federation noted that the two parties would like to establish long-term platforms for interaction and cooperation and hold economic and trade conferences, sales events, investment attractions, tourism resource promotions, and other events. By these, they aim to engage overseas Chinese businesspeople and talent worldwide in brand activities held by the Returned Overseas Chinese Federations of Sichuan and Chongqing.
Since April 2020, when the aforesaid Strategic Cooperation Agreement signed by the Returned Overseas Chinese Federations of Sichuan Province and Chongqing, municipal-level federations teamed up with each other in many fields. “For instance, the two Federations jointly organized the first Overseas Chinese Leaders Sing for Sichuan and Chongqing Economic Circle ‘on the Cloud’ not long ago. Overseas Chinese leaders from the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Myanmar were present at the video meeting, which raised positive feedback in respective overseas Chinese societies. Sichuan and Chongqing plan to build an integrated development platform for the Returned Overseas Chinese Federations, give full play to their brands’ strengths, and intensify cooperation. As a result, they can embed the ideas that “Sichuan and Chongqing peoples belong to one family” and “Sichuan and Chongqing have the same goal” in returned overseas Chinese and their relatives and those still living abroad, to create a sound atmosphere,” said ahead of the Returned Overseas Chinese Federation of Chongqing.
