Chongqing Office of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI) was inaugurated in Liangjiang New Area on September 1. Duan Chenggang, Director of Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee, attended the event and unveiled the office.

SCCCI Chongqing Office Inaugurated in Liangjiang New Area

Established in 1906, the SCCCI has a membership network comprising more than 160 trade association members and nearly 5,000 corporate members, representing over 40,000 multinational corporations, government-linked companies, large financial and business organizations, and enterprises. It plays an important role in promoting business, education, culture, and community development both in Singapore and abroad. Before and after the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Singapore, the SCCCI has been actively promoting economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, encouraging Singaporean enterprises to invest and develop in China, and assisting the Chinese government and enterprises in conducting business activities and investment in Singapore.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Singapore and the 5th anniversary of the implementation of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity (CCI). As the core area for implementing CCI, Liangjiang New Area has witnessed closer economic and trade exchanges with Singapore and significant progress has been made in cooperation in various fields. SCCCI Chongqing Office in Liangjiang New Area could serve the provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government in Western China. In the context of the COVID-19 outbreak, the establishment of the office shows that Singapore attaches great importance to cooperation with China and has firm confidence in the development of Chongqing.

In the past five years, 60 new cooperation projects have been signed-up in Liangjiang New Area, with the amount reaching USD 11.5 billion, accounting for about one-third of the city's total.
