2020 Culture and Tourism Big Data: Rapid Recovery of Chongqing's Tourism Market

The launch event of 2020 Culture and Tourism Big Data was held at the Smart China Expo on Sept 16. Analysis Report on the Big Data of Tourism Popularity in Sichuan and Chongqing Regions and Analysis Report of Big Data on 2020 Chongqing Summer Tourism were released.

In the context of the national strategy of “Building Chengdu-Chongqing Twin-City Economic Circle” and building Sichuan-Chongqing Culture and Tourism Corridor, Chongqing Culture and Tourism Data Center released the Analysis Report on the Big Data of Tourism Popularity in Sichuan and Chongqing Regions. Based on ranks of famous cities, scenic spots, food, and hotels in Chongqing and Sichuan, tourists’ focus dimensions of scenic spots and hotels and buzz words of appraisal about scenic spots and hotels, the report analyzed the popularity, highlights, and features of tourism in Sichuan and Chongqing. They thoroughly presented tourism WOM and impressions on the tourism of Sichuan and Chongqing. Meanwhile, the Analysis Report of Big Data on 2020 Chongqing Summer Tourism was released as well. Based on the big data platform of China Mobile Chongqing, this report precisely analyzed multiple data, including tourist markets of Chongqing, transportation that tourists chose to come to Chongqing, accommodation, and so forth.

On July 14, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced the resumption of inter-provincial tourist group business and the “flight+hotel” business. The tourism of Chongqing has been recovering rapidly since then. According to the introduction of Mr. Liu Xuefeng, the Chief of Chongqing Culture and Tourism Data Center, the third-quarter survey on people’s traveling will by China Tourism Academy(Data Center of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism) shows 80.22% of people are willing to travel. The rate of resumption of travel agencies reached nearly 60%, and 95% of companies are confident in the travel agencies’ future business. The quality of resumption of hotels and tourist attractions exceeded 90%. The reservation of Chongqing Ciqikou Ancient Town registered 87,127, which made it atop the rank of the reservation of tourist attractions and cultural venues nationwide during the period from July 10 to July 16. The Research Institute of Dazu Rock Carvings set up a fast pass for tourist groups, including “epidemic prevention and control, tourist transportation, tickets verification, parking” and received its first tourist group consisting of 1000 tourists after the resumption of tourist group business.

During the summer vacation, short trips or village tours were still prevalent in Chongqing. For example, traditional summer resorts such as Wulong Karst Geological Park, Black Valley of Wansheng, Huangshui of Shizhu Country, Taohuayuan in Youyang attracted lots of tourists as usual, and upgraded Nantian Lake of Fengdu and Mount Wuling Great Rift Valley became new popular summer resorts. Popular theme parks like Dream Ordovician Theme Park in Wansheng and Locajoy in Yongchuan were most searched online. Newly built theme parks like Chongqing Happy Valley and Chongqing Rongchuang Cultural Tourism City will attract more tourists. With National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, reservation of tourism reaches a peak. Based on the prediction of Chongqing Culture and Tourism Data Center, Hongyadong, Ciqikou Ancient Town, and the Yangtze River Cableway will be the most visited places as usual. Consumption in culture and relaxation will gradually return to normal.

How is the smart technology applied to the resumption of the culture and tourism industry of Chongqing when epidemic prevention and control become normal? According to Mr.Liu’s introduction, online booking systems, contactless services, smart tour-guides, data monitors, VR technology, and so forth have become standard equipment for tourism enterprises and tourist attractions. In addition, Chongqing launched a large-scale promotion activity ---“2020 Showcase”. At the activity, creative culture products and tourism products were sold on live-streaming studios and the virtual culture and tourism exhibition pavilion. The audience also can visit tourist attractions via VR technology. The epidemic has boosted the development of the smart cultural tourism of Chongqing and secretly changed tourists’ consumption habits as well.
