The Development and Innovation Center for Ultra HD Video Industry was officially launched at the Western China Ultra HD Video Industry Forum on Sep. 15, which was one of the major theme forums during the now concluded 2020 Smart China Expo Online.

The Center was jointly established by the Chongqing Municipal Government and the 5th Electronics Research Institute under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, PRC. It will serve as a comprehensive public services platform for the whole industry chain, providing all-in-one solutions for hardware and software such as quality inspection, certification, and talent training.

Industry players can exchange insights and discuss the future development of cutting-edge technologies, inquire information on preferential policies and supportive measures, and conduct technical and managerial personnel training, according to Yang Lin, an official with the 5th Electronics Research Institute. “It’s practically a brand-new inclusive organization that facilitates the integrated, collaborative, and synchronized development of all parties in the ultra-high definition (UHD) video industry.”

Yang also said that the Center was build to promote not just the regional development of the UHD video industry in Chongqing, but also the overall development of the UHD video industry in southwestern China.

According to the Guidelines on Ultra-High Definition Video Standards release this year by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, UHD videos are a new generation video type that meets the technical requirements of higher frame rate, higher bit depth, wider color gamut, and higher dynamic range, usually with a 4K (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) or 8K (7680 x 4320 pixels) resolution.
